Second half goals by Heather Vaughan (Virginia Beach, VA), Shavon Knight (Waldorf, MD), and Lisa McKenzie (Inverness, Scotland) lift the Lady Monarch soccer team to victory over Georgia State 3-2. ODU improves to 9-1-0, 3-0-0 in the CAA, their best start in the history of the program, while GSU drops to 6-6-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the CAA.
Georgia State struck an early lead with a goal at 25:12 by Amanda Schneider. The score remained 1-0 until the 63rd minute when GSU's Amber Collins scored again for the Panthers. ODU began their rally at 66:09 with a goal Heather Vaughan, assisted by Caroline Brown (Lansdale, PA). Next at the 75th minute of play, freshman forward Shavon Knight connected off a pass from Vaughan. Lisa McKenzie netted the winning goal at 82:53 off an assist from Katie Watson (Woodbridge, VA) to give ODU the victory. Old Dominion recorded a 16-7 shot advantage, and a 3-1 corner kick edge.
The Lady Monarchs return to action October 7, when the host Delaware at the Old Dominion Soccer Stadium.
