NORFOLK, VA - First half goals by Laura Beeman (Chalfont,PA), Heather Vaughan (Virginia Beach, VA), and Shavon Knight (Waldorf, MD) lift the Lady Monarchs over UNC-Wilmington 3-2. Old Dominion is now 8-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the CAA, their best start in the history of the program, the Seahawks drop to 5-5, 1-1-0 in the CAA.

Two minutes into the first half Beeman found the net off a pass from Lisa McKenzie (Inverness, Scotland) to give the Lady Monarchs an early 1-0 lead. At 18:15 Vaughan netted a pass from Beeman off a corner kick for another goal. In the 34th minute UNCW's Lizzy Chriss connected with an unassisted goal off a deflection to bring the score to 2-1. Late in the first half at 40:32 freshman forward Shavon Knight scored a goal, with an assist by Liz Brewster (Clifton, VA). The Seahawks Jenny Cauble scored off an assist from Jennifer Knoblich with less than two minutes to go in the game, in a last-ditch effort for UNCW.

Old Dominion had a 17-4 shot advantage, and a 4-3 corner kick edge. CAA Player of the Week Laura Beeman with 31 career goals is now just three goals away from taking second place in ODU record books for most career goals.

The Lady Monarchs travel to Atlanta Sunday October 2nd, to take on CAA newcomer Georgia State, and then return home for a game against Delaware Friday October 7th, at the Old Dominion Soccer Stadium.
