NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Player of the Week it was announced Monday by the league office. Engle led Old Dominion in the shots column against #3 North Carolina and registered a goal and an assist in the Lady Monarchs' 5-2 upset win over #4 Duke this past weekend.
In Saturday's 1-0 loss to the third-ranked Tar Heels, Engle led the team with five shots as the Lady Monarchs outshot the Tar Heels 11-5 and outcornered their opponent 10-2. Engle was then one of five Lady Monarch goal scorers against the fourth-ranked Blue Devils. She assisted on the Lady Monarchs' second goal of the afternoon, eight minutes into the game, and then put away a penalty corner goal which gave ODU a 4-0 lead early in the second half.
Engle is currently tied for the Lady Monarchs' top scorer with five goals, three assists, and 13 points. Additionally she leads the league in shots (36) and shots per game (4.50). She is also sixth points (13), ninth in points per game (1.62), fifth in goals (5), seventh in goals per game (0.62), and seventh in assists (3).
The Lady Monarch field hockey team has one more road game before returning home, traveling to Richmond on Saturday, September 24th. ODU returns home to open the CAA slate taking on Drexel at Foreman Field on Sunday, September 25th.
