NORFOLK, Va. -- Monarch Madness, sponsored by McDonalds, will usher in the opening of the highly anticipated 2005-06 season for both the Old Dominion men's and women's basketball teams on Friday, October 14th from 9:00 p.m. to midnight at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The tentative schedule includes the introduction of both the defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Champion men's and women's teams, slam dunk contest, three-point contest, autograph sessions with the student-athletes, and various other games and contests.
The Lady Monarch women's basketball team, winners of an NCAA record 14 straight CAA titles, welcome back four starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's 22-9 squad. Four top 10 teams, seven NCAA squads, and two WNIT participants from a year ago, along with 13 homes dates highlights the 2005-06 women's basketball schedule for the upcoming year.
The Monarch men's basketball team returns four starters including CAA Player of the Year, Tournament MVP, Honorable Mention All-American and CAA Male Scholar Athlete of the Year Alex Loughton (Perth, Australia). Their schedule will include games against nine teams who participated in post season play in 2005 along with the Paradise Jam tournament in St. Thomas, VI, and the Bracket Busters Constant hosted at the Constant Center on February 18th.
