NORFOLK, Va. -- Rookie Tiffany Green (Chesapeake Va.) netted a career-high 20-points and hauled in 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the 2004-05 season as the Old Dominion women's basketball defeated William & Mary, 77-44, Thursday night at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

The Tribe fell to 4-11 overall and 2-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), while the Lady Monarchs improved to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in league action in their third straight win.

The Lady Monarchs controlled the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Tribe by 27, 58-31. Green joined sophomore Shantel Wilson (Washington, D.C.) as the other Lady Monarch with double figure rebounds as she collected a career-high 10.

Old Dominion held a five-point edge at the half. The Lady Monarchs led by as many as nine halfway through opening half, but William & Mary took an 8-0 run to cut the score to 17-16 with 9:18 left. Old Dominion managed to bump their lead to seven on three occasions before William & Mary closed the gap once again. Back-to-back Tribe three-pointers pulled William & Mary to within three, 30-27, with 3:05 left in the half and Old Dominion entered the locker room with a 35-30 advantage.

The Lady Monarchs quickly took control of the tempo in the second half racing out to a 10-point lead within the first two minutes. The Tribe's Lindsey Brizendine hit a jumper with 17:27 to go to cut her team's deficit to eight, 41-33, but it would the last time William & Mary trailed by single digits. An 8-0 run by Old Dominion, which included a bucket by junior Lawona Davis (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and perfect attempts from the line by sophomore Tish Lyons (Newport News, Va.) and senior Shareese Grant (Va. Beach, Va.) gave the Lady Monarchs a 16-point lead, 51-35, with 14:06 remaining in the game.

Old Dominion led by as many as 20 late in the second half. Green hit two free throws to give the Lady Monarchs a 64-66 edge with 6:09 left. With less than three minutes remaining, Old Dominion held its largest lead of the game, a 25-point 76-51 advantage.

From the line shot 78.1 percent in the Lady Monarchs' best effort from the charity stripe in last ten games.

Four Lady Monarchs were in double figures led by Green's 20 points. Grant added in 15 along with five assists. Davis and rookie Shahida Williams (Newark, N.J.) each had 11. The 11 points by Williams marked a season-high and her six rebounds tied her best effort on the glass this season.

Brizendine led William & Mary with a season-high 18 points off the bench. Sophomore guard and Preseason Second Team All-CAA member Kyle DeHaven added in 17 points and dished out six assists, while Lizzie Schiel netted 12.

Old Dominion returns at Towson on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m.
