NORFOLK, VA -Old Dominion swimming head coach Carol Withus announced a five-member early signing class Wednesday, consisting of three women and two men. Patrik Balint of Hungary will join the Monarchs for the spring 2005 season. The other men's recruit is Johan Lundberg, brother of current Monarch Daniel Lundberg. Joining the women's team are Meghan Dailey, Jennifer Sargent and Emily Smidlein.

Meghan Dailey is a freestyle and backstroke specialist from Riverside High School in Greer, SC. Dailey also swims for the Y-Spartaquatics recreational team. Jennifer Sargent is from Manchester High School in Chesterfield, VA, and also swims for Poseidon Swimming, specializing in the breaststroke and IM events. Emily Smidlein is from The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, TX and is a freestyle specialist.
Patrik Balint is from Arny Janos High School in Budapest, Hungary. Balint swims for the Ferencvaros Torna Club. Johan Lundberg is from Aranasgymnasium High School in Fjaras, Sweden. A very versatile swimmer, Lundberg swims every event.
"I'm very excited about our early signees," Coach Withus said. "We've recruited a class of athletes that are of course a great addition in the pool, but are also great academically and they all have great characters. This is the core group we want to build on for our regular signing period."
The Monarchs compete in their final home swim meet of the season Saturday, facing George Washington Saturday at 2:00. The first diving competition begins at noon.
