WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Five Lady Monarchs earned All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honors in a vote by the league's head coaches as the conference presented its year-end award in Williamsburg on the eve of the 2004 CAA Field Hockey Championships. Sophomore midfielder Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.) and junior defender Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) earned First Team All-CAA honors, while senior midfielder Lynn Farquhar (Alexandria, Va.) and sophomore midfielder Caroline Nichols (Va. Beach, Va.) were named to the Second Team. Freshman defender Sami McLenegan (Middletown, Pa.) represented Old Dominion on the All-Rookie Team.

William & Mary junior forward Kelly Giles, who led the Tribe to their first outright Colonial Athletic Association regular season title, was named the CAA Field Hockey Player of the Year.

Also receiving top field hockey honors from the CAA were Delaware sophomore midfielder/back Amanda Warrington as the league's Defensive Player of the Year, Virginia Commonwealth University freshman forward Carlot Verloop as the Rookie of the Year and William & Mary's Peel Hawthorne as the Coach of the Year.

Sensenig and Engle joined Giles, Warrington and Verloop on the First Team along with Delaware senior midfielder Erica LaBar and sophomore goalkeeper Megan Allen, William & Mary junior defender Anna Davis, James Madison sophomore midfielder Baillie Versfeld, Hofstra sophomore forward Doni-Melissa Jantzen, and Towson senior forward Julie Lambi.

Farquhar and Nichols joined William & Mary senior forward Ginny Sutton, junior back Diana Esposito, and junior goalkeeper Heather Kibbee, Delaware senior back Leah Geib and senior midfielder Jessi Balmer, Drexel sophomore back Karie Walton and junior midfielder Amanda Mouser, Hofstra senior back Sara Gonzalez, Towson senior midfielder and James Madison senior back Lindsay Coffman.

The All-Rookie team was made up of Sami McLenegan of Old Dominion, Laura Kastelic of William & Mary, Pemba Ramdoo of Hofstra, Molly Burke of Delaware, Amy DeCecco and Lauren Stefanik of James Madison, Emily Horvat and Sarah Gostomski of Drexel, Kelli Richards and Gabbi Mink of Towson and Verloop of VCU.

Action begin on Saturday for William & Mary, Old Dominion, Delaware, and Hofstra at the 2004 CAA Field Hockey Tournament. The top seeded Tribe faces fourth seeded Hofstra at noon on Saturday followed the second seeded Lady Monarchs and third seeded Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens at 2:30 p.m. The winners will meet in the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
