NORFOLK, VA-Donnie Smith (Portsmouth, VA.-Norcom HS) and Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.) scattered nine hits, and Steven Harris (Virginia Beach, VA.-Kellam HS) and Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) each knocked in two runs as Old Dominion (25-24/12-9) won its tenth straight game with a 6-1 victory over Hofstra (14-35/3-21) Sunday afternoon. It was the Monarchs second straight CAA series sweep. The victory puts ODU in fourth place.
Steven Harris slammed his fifth home run of the season with Justin Gregula Washington, PA.) aboard to give ODU a 2-0 lead in the first. Hofstra struck back as Mike Perullo led off the second with a solo homer, his third of the year.
In the fifth inning, senior Derek James (Terre Haute, IN.) sacrifice fly scored Steven Harris to give ODU a 3-1 lead. Senior Allen Strick then hit a two-run homer with Dana Arrowood aboard to make it 5-1. ODU scored in the eighth as senior Kevin Heninger (Va.Beach, VA.- Salem HS) scored on Harris' single to make it,6-1. Smith fanned six and walked none in six innings of work, while Arrowood fanned three with no walks.
Mike Perullo led Hofstra with three hits in four at bats. The Pride tied a schoolsingle season record for doubles with 105 when Perullo doubled with two outs in the eighth inning.
The Monarchs finish the season this weekend when they travel to UNC Wilmington beginning Thursday night at 7 p.m. The CAA Tournament begins May25th in Wilmington.
