ODU Defeats Hofstra, 11-2 For Eighth Straight Win.

NORFOLK, VA-Justin Verlander (Goochland, VA.) fanned ten, scattered seven hits, and Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) knocked in four runs to lead Old Dominion University (23-24/ 10-9) to an 11-2 victory over Hofstra (14-34/3-19) Friday night. ODU has now won eight straight games.

Verlander pitched seven innings, walking none and striking out ten. He now has135 strikeouts in 92 innings this year, four shy of his single season mark of 139 set last season. He also has 411 (322 innings) career strikeouts which the all-time best in ODU, CAA and the State of Virginia Division I history. Freshmen James Greene (Poquoson, VA.), and Joseph Johannes(Va. Beach, VA.-Kempsville HS) pitched the final two innings.

Senior thirdbaseman Allen Strick knocked in four runs with a two-run homer inODU's six-run fifth and a two-run singled in the sixth. Sophomore Dana Arrowood (Stafford, Va.) had a career high four hits along with two runs batted. The18 hits was the second highest total of the season. ODU had 19 at Delaware on April 17th.

Justin Gregula, (Washington, PA) and Steven Harris (Va. Beach, VA.-Kellam HS) also had three hits on the day, while Brandon Carter (Sacramento, CA.) scored three times.

Hofstra scored first as Andrew Campana walked, then scored when Michael Walsh slammed a two-run homer in the first inning. In ODU's half of the first inning, Justin Gregula singled home Keith Hahn and Harris singled home Gregula to tie the game at two. In the third inning, Dana Arrowood singled home Brandon Carter to give ODU the lead for good at 3-2 . The same two teams will play again on Saturday at 5 p.m.
