Tribe Defeats Monarchs, 14-7

NORFOLK, VA-The Tribe of William and Mary pounded out 18 hits, and erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning to defeat Old Dominion, 14-7 in a ColonialAthletic Association game. The Tribe came into game ranked fourth nationallyin hitting (.344) and 11th nationally in runs per game at 9.6.

The Tribe took a 2-0 lead on an run scoring double by Mike DeCarlo, scoringChris Rahl. DeCarlo then scored on Greg Sexton's single.

Justin Gregula's three-run triple in the fourth keyed the Monachs four-runrally, and plated Steven Harris, Dana Arrowood, and Derek James. Gregula thenscored on Brandon Carters single. The Tribe then tied the game in the fifth on YanceyJones' two-run homer. ODU scored in the bottom of the inning with the bases loadedon a double-play which allowed Allen Strick to score from third.

With ODU, leading 5-4, the Tribe got a two-out three-run homer from Mike DeCarlo to put them in front for good, at 7-5. In the seventh inning, William and Mary scored seven runs after two were out. Will Rhymes and Greg Sexton each had two run hits in the inning.

Jon Rhymes, Will Rhymes, and Mike DeCarlo each had three hits, whileDeCarlo knocked in five runs, and scored four times on the evening. Yancey Jonesand Greg Sexton each knocked in three runs. Paul Knacksted came in the fifth inningand picked up his fifth win of the year without a loss. Steven Harris and Dana Arrowood each had three hits for the Monarchs. The two teams will play Saturday at 5 p.m.
