NORFOLK, VA. - Junior righthander Donnie Smith (Portsmouth, VA.-Norcom HS) scattered five hits and struck out eight to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion to a 7-3 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Towson Sunday afternoon. ODU is now 12-12 overall and 2-1 the CAA, while Towson is 8-12 overall and 1-2.

Smith pitched eight innings allowing only one earned run and fanning eight forhis third win of the season. He lowered his earned run average to a team best 2.06 and has 51 strikeouts in 39.1 innings.

Freshman Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) and Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.) each knocked in two runs. Cipolla doubled home Derek James (Terre Haute, IN.) and Steven Harris (Va. Beach, VA.-Kellam HS) in ODU's five-run fourth, while Gregula doubled home Brandon Carter (Sacramento, CA.) in the third and singled in Cipolla in the fourth.

Bobby Paduano knocked in two of Towson's runs with a two-out triple in theeighth inning. Jeremy Stifler walked with the bases loaded to force in Mark Chicciniin the first inning.

ODU travels to Raleigh, NC to play at North Carolina State Tuesday night at7 p.m.
