NORFOLK, VA-Chad Kinyon, Emmannuel Burriss and Matt Sega had three hits each to lead the Golden Flashes of Kent State to a 14-5 victory over Old DominionSaturday afternoon. Kent State pounded out 17 hits on the day.
With ODU leading 4-3, Kent State scored three runs in the sixth to take thelead for good. Ben Whitney's two-run homer with Sega aboard gave the GoldenFlashes a 5-4 lead. Burriss then scored on an ODU error to make it 6-4.
Kent State erupted for eight runs in the seventh inning as Kurt Eichorn started itoff with a lead-off solo homer. Adam Crowder later doubled home two runs. Joe Tucker, Kinyon and Sega each knocked in runs in that inning.
The Monarchs took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third as Brandon Carter (Sacramento, CA.) singled home Eric Mesa (Miami,FL.), and Derek James (Terre Haute, IN.) tripled home Carter and Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.)
Mesa tripled home freshman catcher Tyler Belcher (Bristol, VA.) in the fourth. ODU's fifth run came in the sixth as Evan Chipman singled home Belcher. ODU is7-10, while Kent State is (5-8).
The third and final game of the series will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
