RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Troy Godwin scored 19 points, including six in a rowduring a 13-3 second-half run Saturday night, and Virginia Commonwealthretained its share of first place in the CAA with a 78-72 victory against OldDominion. The lost puts ODU in a tie for third with George Mason, who defeatedDelaware today.

The Rams (18-7, 12-4 Colonial Athletic Association) are tied with Drexel forthe top spot in the league. The Dragons beat Towson 75-51 Saturday afternoon.

Old Dominion (15-10, 10-6), which was in a three-way tie for first beforelosing to Drexel on Wednesday, trailed 66-57 after the Rams' run and got onlyas close as three thereafter. That came with 57 seconds left, but B.A. Walker's3-pointer clinched it.

Domonic Jones added 15 points, Nick George 13, Michael Doles 12 and Walker11 for the Rams, who beat the Monarchs for the eighth consecutive time. VCUshot 50 percent from the field and won despite being outscored 23-11 from thefree-throw line. VCU hit 18-33 (.545) of their shots in the second half whileODU hit (11-26) for .423.

Isaiah Hunter led Old Dominion with 18 points, Alex Loughton had 16 andValdas Vasylius 15. Freshman Arnaud Dahi(Ivory Coast) led ODU with seven rebounds.

The Monarchs return to action Wednesday night when they host William andMary at 7 p.m. in the Constant Center.
