NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team avenged its earlier loss to Hofstra by handing the Pride a 105-62 loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center and further its grasp on first place in the Colonial Athletic Association.
The Pride, who entered the game looking to become just the second team ever to sweep a season series from the Lady Monarchs, falls to 12-9 on the year and 9-3 in the CAA, while Old Dominion wins its 10th straight home game, improving to 16-6 overall and 11-1 in conference play.
The 105 points scored by the Lady Monarchs were the most since downing Virginia Commonwealth, 108-46, back on January 4, 2002.
Five Lady Monarchs reached double digits including four of the five starters. Senior Max Nhassengo (Maputo, Mozambique) led all scorers with a career-high 27 points surpassing her previous high of 25 set against Towson earlier this season. Freshman Tish Lyons (Newport News, VA) notched her first career double-double with career-highs in points (12) and rebounds (12). Additionally, Lyons shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
After scoring just five points against Drexel, the only time this season she was held to single digits, senior forward Monique Coker (Bronx, NY) poured in 16 points, while senior Myriah Spence (Espanola, NM) added in 17, which included a 3-of-5 performance from beyond the arc. Although junior point guard Shareese Grant (Va. Beach, VA) struggled from the field hitting 3-of-9, she went 5-of-6 from the free throw line to finish the night with 11.
The Hofstra freshman Lizanne Murphy, who tallied a game-high 17 points in the first meeting back at Hofstra Arena, was held to just two total points. Shalamar Oakley led the Pride with 20 points.
Old Dominion led at the half 53-27.
