TOWSON, Md. (AP) - Alex Loughton scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds asOld Dominion beat Towson 70-49 on Saturday. That was Loughton's eighth double-double ofthe year.
Old Dominion (10-6, 5-2 Colonial Athletic Association) rallied from anine-point first half deficit to end a two-game losing streak. The Monarchs are3-1 in the CAA on the road.
The Monarchs trailed for most of the first half as Towson opened up a 12-4lead in the first five minutes, hitting five of its first six shots from thefloor.
"Towson was good at the start of the game, and we were not," said Blaine Taylor."We had to work our way forward to get back in the game."
The Tigers (6-11, 3-5, CAA) extended their lead to 19-10 with 11:24 left inthe half before Old Dominion rallied.
Trailing by 25-18 with 7:38 left in the half, Old Dominon held the Tigersscoreless the rest of the way. Led by John Waller, the Monarchs closed out thehalf with a 12-0 run and led by 30-25 at halftime. Old Dominion never trailedagain.
Loughton was one of four Monarchs to score in double figures. Sophomore guardIsaiah (Charlotte, NC.,) John Waller each scored 14 points while freshman Arnaud Dahi (Ivory Coast,Africa) scored 12, nine in the second half. Waller hauled in nine rebounds.ODU shot only .389 from the floor (28-72), but outrebounded the Tigers, 51-33.
The Monarchs used an 8-0 run early in the second half to grab a 47-33 leadwith 14:40 left in the game. The Monarchs continued to build on their lead andled by as many as 24 points in the final minutes.
The Monarchs return to CAA play Monday with a 7 p.m. contest at William and Mary.
