NORFOLK, VA -- Both the men's and the women's Old Dominion swimming and diving squads lost Friday night to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool. The men were defeated 162-128, while the women lost 162-132. Both teams drop to 2-4 for the season. The meet was the first for the Monarchs since competing in the Terrapin Cup Invitational at the University of Maryland Nov. 20-22.
The women's team were victorious in six of their 16 events, including two team relays. Lauren Timby (Rochester, NY) won in the 1000 freestyle (10:24.53), Samantha Combs (Travelers Rest, SC) won the 50 freestyle (24.97) and Michelle Kenney (Richmond, VA) took the 1-meter diving (210.07 points). On the men's side, the Monarchs won in four events, with two team relay victories. Martin Lundgren (Vaxjo, Sweden) won the 200 IM (2:04.23) and Tom Dingus (Falls Church, VA) won the 3-meter diving (235.72 points). The Monarchs are back in action January 23-24, when they travel to Davidson, NC to take on UNC-Wilmington, Davidson and William & Mary in Colonial Athletic Association competition.
