HAMPTON, VA -The Old Dominion wrestling team split their two matches in the first day of the 24th annual Virginia Duals in Hampton, VA. The Monarchs took on #6 seed Edinboro (#22, InterMat) in the first round. ODU dropped a 42-6 decision, with only Jared Smith (Newport News, VA) posting a victory.
In the first round of consolations, ODU defeated American 33-9. Jared Smith, Billy Hayduk (Chattanooga, TN), Jason Earnhardt (Yorktown, ,VA), David Golt (Chesapeake, VA), John Adams (Chesapeake, VA), Matt Ulrey (Commerce, MI), Robert Valentine (Alexandria, VA) and Derrell Lorthridge (Wilmington, DE) all won for the Monarchs.
The Monarchs return to the mat Saturday, taking on Purdue #5 seed Purdue (#20 InterMat) at 10:00 AM. The Boilermakers defeated Wyoming 19-17 in the first round and lost to #4 Wisconsin 26-15 in the quarterfinals.
