NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs swept the Colonial Athletic Association field hockey weekly awards in the last week of regular season play. Senior midfielder Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) was awarded her third CAA Player of the Week award, while redshirt freshman Jenna McLane (Stowe, VT) earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Loy, the league's leading scorer collected seven points in ODU's 1-1 week against Top-10 teams. Loy had a hand in both Lady-Monarch goals in a 4-2 loss to fourth-ranked North Carolina, scoring one and assisting on the other. The senior was also one of five different goal scorers in the Lady Monarchs' 8-2 win over eighth-ranked Princeton on Sunday. Loy tallied her league-best 18th goal of the season and added her league-leading 16th and 17th assists against the Tigers. The win over Princeton snapped ODU's five-game losing streak. Loy is now tied for sixth place on ODU's career-goals list with 71, and ranks ninth all-time with 52 career assists.
McLane ignited the ODU offense in Sunday's 8-2 upset victory over #8 Princeton, scoring two goals and notching a pair of assists. The freshman was one of five different Lady Monarchs to score against the Tigers, as ODU snapped its five-game losing streak. McLane scored ODU's first two goals, within a minute of each other, to jump start the Lady Monarchs. The two assists were the first and second of her career. On the season, McLane has five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points in her inaugural campaign with the Lady Monarchs.
Old Dominion returns to action in the CAA Tournament, which will be held this weekend at Foreman Field. The Lady Monarchs will be looking to capture its eighth straight and 12th overall conference title. Top seeded Old Dominion will take on fourth seeded VCU in the first semi-final match on Saturday at noon. The Lady Monarchs will be looking to avenge a 5-4 loss to the Rams from two weeks ago, which had snapped ODU's 58-game CAA win streak. Second seeded William & Mary will face third seeded Delaware in the tournament's other semifinal. The Tribe and Fightin' Blue Hens will square off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The winners of each semi-final will meet each other in the championship game with an automatic bid to the 16-team NCAA Tournament on the line. The championship game will take place on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
