NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion University field hockey team slipped back three notches in the STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches' Poll to rank 12th in this week's poll.
The Lady Monarchs (10-8 overall, 6-1 CAA) dropped two contests this past weekend, falling 4-0 to Michigan and 5-4 to conference rival VCU, ending a 58-game CAA streak.
On tap this week for the field hockey team is rematches with #4 North Carolina and #8 Princeton. The Lady Monarchs will look to avenge earlier losses this season to the two teams, as ODU fell 4-0 at Chapel Hill and 2-1 at Princeton.
In all, nine Old Dominion opponents are ranked in the Top 20, including six teams in the Top 10. Wake Forest (14-1) continues its hold on the top spot, followed by Duke (14-2), Maryland (15-2), North Carolina (14-4), and Michigan State (12-4).
The next poll will be released on Tuesday, November 4, 2003. The STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll has no bearing on selection to the 2003 NCAA Division I Championship field.
Fellow CAA members William & Mary (11-4) and Delaware (12-6) remain in the Top 20 this week as well. The Tribe remained at No. 14, while Delaware moved down a spot to rank No. 18.
The Lady Monarchs take on North Carolina on Saturday, November 1st at 1:00 p.m. The match-up with the Tar Heels will be the annual Scholarship Game will the $5.00 admission to benefit field hockey scholarships at the university. ODU will take on Princeton on Sunday, November 2nd at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Monarch seniors will be honored prior to the start of the match-up with the Tigers.
