NORFOLK, VA - Three graduating Monarchs powered the second-ranked Old Dominion men's soccer team to their 14th straight win Saturday night, defeating Delaware 3-1. Michael Goncalves (Alexandria, VA) scored one goal, Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) added the two other goals and Josh Hill (Virginia Beach, VA) had two assists. The Monarchs improve to 14-0 overall and 6-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Delaware falls to 3-9-5, with a 0-5-2 CAA record.
Michael Goncalves got things going early for the Monarchs, scoring his goal two minutes into the game, from a Josh Hill assist. Nearly eight minutes later, Delaware's Haynes Glanden scored an unassisted goal to even the score. Attila Vendegh scored the first of his two goals 12:12 into the game, from a Gregg Mottinger (Carrollton, TX) assist. The final Vendegh goal came nearly three minutes later, from another Josh Hill assist. The four combined goals came in the first 16 minutes of play.
For the game, ODU out-shot Delaware 21-5 in the game. Goalkeeper Sam Cameron (Raleigh, NC) saved two shots and allowed one goal. Kyle Haynes of Delaware saved six shots and allowed three goals. The Monarchs next play Friday, October 31 at James Madison, to kick off the first of three straight road conference games to close out the regular season.
