NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion field hockey team (10-6) slid back two places in the latest STX/NFHCA Poll to No. 9 after suffering two losses this weekend to Maryland and Princeton, who are both are ranked in this week's top 10.
Wake Forest (13-1) remained in the top slot as they have all season long with 20 first place votes followed by Duke (13-2) in second receiving nine first place nods. Maryland (14-2), who defeated the Lady Monarchs on Saturday 3-2, moved up a notch to number three, while North Carolina (13-3) fell back two places to fourth. Michigan (13-3), Old Dominion's opponent on Friday night, remained at number five.
Two other CAA teams also remained in this week's Top 20. Delaware (10-6) fell back two places to rank 17th, while William & Mary (9-4) jumped up two spots to 14th. Virginia Commonwealth, ODU's opponent on Sunday, and Hofstra also received votes in the poll.
In all, 10 Lady Monarch opponents are featured in the Top 20 this week with #5 Michigan, #4 North Carolina, and #8 Princeton along with Virginia Commonwealth still left on the regular season schedule.
The next poll will be released on Tuesday, October 28th. The STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll has no bearing on selection to the 2003 NCAA Division I Championship field.
The Lady Monarchs return to action on Friday, October 24th at 7:00 p.m. at Foreman Field before heading up to Richmond, VA to close out the CAA regular season again VCU on Sunday, October 26th at 1:00 p.m.
