Angie Loy Named to VaSID Academic Third Team

Sept. 23, 2003

NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion University field hockey team slip back two places in the STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll to number seven after suffering losses to North Carolina (4-0) and Duke (3-2) this past weekend.

The top four positions in the poll remained the same as last week with Wake Forest (4-0) once again topping the poll followed by North Carolina (8-0), Maryland (9-0), and Duke (5-1). Michigan (5-3) rounded out the top five, moving up two positions from last week.

The Lady Monarchs (4-4) were one of five CAA teams to appear in this week's coaches' poll. The Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens (6-2) moved up into the Top 20 appearing at number 15. William & Mary (3-3) and Hofstra (8-0) just missed the Top 20 and are the two top teams receiving votes. Towson also made their first appearance in the coaches' poll also receiving votes.

Thirteen teams in this week's version of the STX/NFHCA Division I poll appear on the Lady Monarchs' schedule including five of the poll's top six teams. Upcoming opponents include #5 Michigan, #10 Princeton, #12 Virginia, and #15 Delaware, along with rematches with #2 North Carolina, and #3 Maryland.

On the slate this week is Old Dominion's second CAA contest of the season with a trip to James Madison (2-7) in Harrisonburg, VA on Saturday and then a match-up at #17 Virginia on Sunday in Charlottesville, VA. Both games begin at 1:00 p.m.

The next poll will be released on Tuesday, September 30th. The STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll has no bearing on selection to the 2003 NCAA Division I Championship Field.
