NORFOLK, VA (Sept. 14, 2003) - The nationally-ranked Old Dominion Men's Soccer team (5-0-0) defeated Longwood (2-5-0) 6-0 Sunday afternoon to win the 28th annual Stihl Soccer Classic. Junior defender Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA) was named the Tournament MVP. McEachron was also named the MVP of last week's Cal-Berkeley tournament.

Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) scored the lone Monarch goal in the first half, 23 minutes into the game. ODU came on strong in the second half, however, scoring five goals. Vendegh added a second goal to his total four minutes into the half. Kevin McMenamin (West Springfield, MA) scored two goals and had an assist for the game. Kyle Hartley (Virginia Beach, VA) and Gianni Cimini (Ontario, Canada) added a goal each in the effort. On the defensive end of the game, goalkeeper Sam Cameron (Raleigh, NC) once again allowed no goals in 74 minutes of play.

In earlier action, William and Mary (3-2-0) was defeated 4-1 by American (2-3-0) 4-1. The Eagles scored two goals early in the first half to take the quick lead. They went into the half with a 3-0 lead. Bryan Kinkle made good on a penalty kick for William and Mary to score the lone Tribe goal. Peter Philipakos scored two goals for American.

ODU had four players on the All-Tournament team: MVP Trevor McEachron, Sam Cameron, Ian Kaila (Fredericksburg, VA) and Kevin McMenamin. American University placed second in the tournament and had three members on the All-Tournament team: Peter Philipakos, Charles Koniver and Salvatore Caccavale. William and Mary placed third and named Graham Albert and Patrick Scherder to the All-Tournament team. Longwood placed last and named Stuart Bertsch and Shawn Spilman to the All-Tournament team.

ODU next plays third-ranked Wake Forest Friday night, Sept. 19, at 7:00 PM at home in the William and Mary Tournament. The Monarchs also play Marshall at home Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7:00 PM for the second game of the tournament.
