NORFOLK, VA. -- Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, PA.) and Angie Loy (Loysville, PA.)Each scored a goal and an assist in the second half as #6 Old Dominion defeated #10Connecticut, 4-2 Sunday afternoon. Both teams are now 4-2.
ODU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half as freshman Katie Claxton (Va. Beach,VA.) scored with 13:50 left in the match. With 5:52 remaining, Chilly Banuelos (Escondido,CA.) scored. UCONN cut into the lead with 18.9 seconds left in the first half on a goal byMary Joe Malone. The Huskies then tied the match with 29:44 left in the second half on agoal from Lauren Henderson.
Engle put ODU up for good with a goal with 15:29 left on a pass from Angie Loy.Loy then scored about four minutes later with a goal which was assisted by Engle andCaroline Nichols (Va. Beach, VA.). ODU outshot UCONN, 23-9. Lady Monarch goalkeeperTina Walker (Suffolk, VA.) came up with six saves on the day, while the Huskies' goalkeeper,Maureen Butler had 11.
The Lady Monarchs return to action next Saturday when they travel to Chapel Hill,NC to take on archrival North Carolina at 1 p.m.
