Monarch Sailing Off to Solid Start in First Day Competition

NORFOLK, VA - The Old Dominion Sailing team is 2nd overall in the Riley Cup after the first day of competition with 55 points. Georgetown leads the 18 team competition with 49 points. The Monarchs' Division A has 27 points and Division B has 28 points.

In the ODU BYO Radial, Junior Anna Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg, OH) put in a dominating performance, to lead the 21 person event with 20 points. Her nearest competitor has 50 points. Maureen Castruccio (Pleasanton, CA) is 10th overall after Saturday with 125 points and Cara Disanti (Seacliff, NY) is in 12th place with 147 points.

In the Navy Laser Open, Junior Bill Berg (Longwood, FL) is in second place with 32 points. Navy's Spencer Weber leads with 27 points. Charles Higgins (Arlington, TX) is in 10th place with 57 points and David Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg, OH) is in 11th place with 62 points. The top six finishers qualify for the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association district men's singlehanded championships. Sailing will continue on Sunday for each of the events.
