NORFOLK, VA - The nationally-ranked (#6 & #7) Old Dominion Men's Soccer team (4-0-0) emerged victorious Friday night at the ODU Stihl Soccer Classic, defeating American 1-0, on a late goal with five minutes left in the game, from Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA), from an assist by Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia).

The late goal comes after many near misses from Vendegh.Vendegh sent a cross in front of the net and McEachron headed it in for the goal.Vendegh ended the game with 6 shots, half of the Monarch total. In the evenly-matched game, American also had 12 shots. The Monarchs had five shots on goal for the game, and American had four.

Both teams started out slow in the first half, but the rains came during the half and continued throughout the remainder of the game, contributing to an increased pace. Both goalkeepers, Thomas Myers of American and senior Monarch Samuel Cameron (Raleigh, NC) had four saves for the game. Cameron has yet to allow a goal so far in the season, recording four consecutive shut-outs.

In earlier action at the Stihl Soccer Classic, William and Mary (3-1-0) defeated Longwood (2-4-0) 6-0. Phillip Hucles and Andreas Nydal each scored two goals in the dominating effort. Clayton Voss had two assists for the Tribe.

William and Mary will next play American Sunday, Sept. 14, at 12:00 PM. ODU returns to action Sunday at 2:30 PM against Longwood. The winner of the tournament, the All-Tournament team and the tournament MVP will be announced at the conclusion of the ODU-Longwood game.
