ABOUT THE OPPONENT:

Maryland: TheTerrapins are coming off a New England road trip in which they blanked theiropponents, New Hampshire (8-0) and UMass (7-0). Maryland holds just a 1-11-1 regular season record at ForemanField with its lone win back in 1996 with a 1-0 victory. Last season, the Lady Monarchs took a 2-0regular season victory and a 4-1 NCAA second round victory to avenge a 2-0setback in College Park in the early weeks of the 2002 season. Maryland and Old Dominion have enjoyed ahome and home series since the 1999 season with the home team emerging with thevictory all but one time. The LadyMonarchs stole a 1-0 overtime victory in College Park in 2001. TheTerps return seven starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's 17-5squad. Among the returnees include FirstTeam All-American junior forward Colleen Barbieri. Barbieri, who is the Terp's leading returning scorer from lastseason with 13 goals and six assists, has already collected two goals and twoassists in the opening weekend of play.In net, the Lady Monarchs will be looking to get past sophomore ToriCano. Cano made an appearance againstOld Dominion in last year's NCAA Tournament, making a career-high eight savesin just her third career start between the pipes. Cano already has two shutouts under her belt this season thanksin large part to the Terp defense, which has only allowed three shots on net.

Stanford: The Cardinal welcome back nine letterwinners and six startersfrom last year's 10-11 squad. Stanford suffered its last eight losses in 2002by a single goal, but managed to outscore (40-33) and outshoot (332-182) theiropponents despite a one game record under .500. Stanford, who lost to Villanova (3-1) to open the season, willplay host to Ohio State and travel to fellow CAA member Virginia Commonwealth,before arriving at Foreman Field. Stanford freshman Cara-Lynn Lopresti, amember of the Under-20 National Team, scored the lone goal for the Cardinal. Senior forward Noor Dawood is the team'sreturning leading scorers from last season.She finished with 16 points (6 G, 4 A) last season and led the squadwith four game-winning goals. Dawood isStanford's active career leader in goals (12), assists (7), and points (31). The Lady Monarchs and Cardinal have not metsince the 2000 season when Old Dominion defeated Stanford 6-1 in the openinground of the NCAA Tournament. Thatseason, Old Dominion went on to capture its ninth national title.

Four true or redshirt freshman were members of lastweekend's staring line-ups for the Lady Monarchs. The rest of the starting 11 consisted of three seniors, twojuniors, and two sophomores. CarolineNichols (Va. Beach, VA) was one of the newcomers to make a mark on the statsheet. She picked up an assist inSaturday's 3-1 victory over Louisville on a stick stop during a penalty corneron ODU's second goal of the game.

FOREMAN FIELD STREAK SNAPPED:

LastSunday's 6-2 defeat at the hands of Penn State snapped the Lady Monarchs'51-game home turf winning streak. It was thefirst Lady Monarch loss at Foreman Field since a 2-1 overtime setback to NorthCarolina in 1999.

LEARNING FROM A LOSS:

OldDominion has not allowed an opponent to score five or more goals since the 2000season when the Lady Monarchs lost to top ranked Maryland, 5-4, in doubleovertime. That would be the only loss the Lady Monarchs would collect thatseason en route to a 25-1 overall mark and their ninth national championship.
