CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - The Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs battled to 1-1 tie with #14 Virginia in an exhibition game played at UVa's Klockner Stadium. Two-time CAA Player of the Year Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) scored with 30 seconds leftin the first half for ODU.
Virginia got on the board first as Kirk Dinnall scored with an assist from AdamCristman. With 30 seconds left in the first half ODU's Kevon Harris (Kingston, Jamaica) played a long cross upfield to a streaking Attila Vendegh who fired in the shot to tie the match.Neither team scored in the second half and no overtime was played.
Virginia outshot ODU, 15-10 as both Monarch goalies Sam Cameron (Raleigh, NC.)and John Connelly (Rockville, MD.) came up with three saves each. The two teams playedlast year in the regular season with Virginia winning, 3-2. ODU, picked to finish second in theCAA returns to action on Saturday night when they travel to Chapel Hill, NC to take on North Carolina at 7 p.m.
