The Old Dominion women's sailing team qualified for the ICSA Women's North American Championship which is set to begin this Monday, June 2 and will continue through Wednesday, June 4. This year's championship will be held in Gross Pointe Shores, MI at the Gross Pointe Yacht Club.
The Lady Monarchs are ranked third nationally and will be competing against 17 other teams for the title. Old Dominion has won this event three times, the most recent coming last year in Honolulu, HI, and have won a total of 13 sailing titles since 1982.
Senior's Liz Bower (Fairport, NY), Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, NY), Corrie Clement (Metarie, LA) and Anna Cobb (Mechanicsville, VA) were all apart of the winning team last year and are looking to win the program's 14th North American Championship in their last event at Old Dominion. Sophomore Anna Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg, OH) has already picked up the program's first Women's Singlehanded North American Championship when she finished first in that event in November in Houston, TX.
Old Dominion hasn't won two North American titles in the same academic year since 1998 when they took home the Team Race and Coed Dinghy Championships in New Orleans, LA.
