NORFOLK, VA -- Old Dominion assistant women's basketball coach Stacy Himes has announced her resignation from the Lady Monarch program as announced today by head coach Wendy Larry.
"I feel blessed to have been a part of Old Dominion University and the Lady Monarchs for the last nine years," said Himes. "The opportunities and the experiences that I have had here have not only been rewarding, they have helped me to grow tremendously. Although I am excited for a new beginning, I am saddened that I will not see what has become my second family everyday. I will forever be a Lady Monarch and the memories and the people involved with this University and this women's basketball program will be treasured always."
Himes has been associated with the Lady Monarch women's basketball program for over nine years both as a player and a coach. She donned the Lady Monarch uniform from 1993-97 helping Old Dominion compile an 115-17 (.871) overall mark and a 63-1 record in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Glen Burnie, MD native was a tri-captain of the 1997 squad which finished the season with a 34-2 record and advanced to the NCAA Championship game. Her name still stands in the record books ranking 10th on ODU's list of career games played with 129 appearances in a Lady Monarch uniform.
Following her graduation from Old Dominion in 1997, Himes began her coaching career at nearby Virginia Wesleyan before returning to her alma mater beginning in the 1998-99 season. During her coaching career with the Lady Monarchs, Old Dominion recorded a 127-35 overall mark (.784) and continued its dominance in the CAA, winning five of Old Dominion's NCAA record 12 consecutive conference championships. Old Dominion advanced to the "Elite Eight" of the NCAA Tournament in 2002 and "Sweet Sixteen" appearances in 1999 and 2000.
"Stacy's nine years of commitment to our program will be sorely missed" said Larry. "We wish her all the best in her new career."
A national search for her replacement will begin immediately.
