RICHMOND, VA. -- Jose Pabon scored on a wild pitch with one out in the bottom of theninth inning as Virginia Commonwealth defeated Old Dominion, 3-2 in a CAA clash at theDiamond Friday night.
VCU is now 23-7 overall and 5-1 in the CAA, while ODU drops to 10-17 overall and 1-2in the CAA.
ODU led 2-0 as John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.) singled home Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.)in the first inning. In the top of the eighth, Brent sollenberger's groundoutscored Chipman again.
VCU tied the game in the bottom of the eight off Verlander as pinchhitter Joe Meadorsingled home both Eric Latura, and Justin Mattison with two out.
Verlander finished the game with 12 strikeouts and three walks after eight inningsof work. This is his second straight no-decision.
Pabon reached on a walk by freshman Jason Godin with one out. He reached thirdon Paul Swack's single and scored the winning run on a wild pitch. The twoteams play again Saturday in the Diamond at 4 p.m.
