NORFOLK, VA. - Dana Arrowood tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with atwo-run homer, won the game in the bottom of the 11th with a bases loaded single as wellas picked up the win on the mound as Old Dominion defeated Liberty, 6-5 in 11 innings. Thevictory was ODU head coach Tony Guzzo's 700th collegiate win.
The Flames led 5-2 going into the bottom of the ninth. Evan Chipman started therally with a leadoff single. With the bases loaded, Chipman scored on a double play. Arrowoodthen hits a two out, two-run homer to tie the game at five with Brent Sollenberger also scoring.
In the 11th Sollenberger, Brandon LeNoir singled, and Allen Strick was intentionallywalked. Arrowood singled to rightfield to end the game. The freshman knocked in the lastthree ODU runs. He also picked up the win on the mound going two innings with threestrikeouts and two walks. The victory ended ODU's six game losing streak.
Evan Chipman and Brandon LeNoir led ODU's 14-hit attack with three hits each.Larry Wayne York of Liberty kept his 14-game hitting streak alive with an RBI doublein the ninth. He also walked three times. Jeremiah Boles and Andrew Van Slyke eachhad two hits for Liberty. Guzzo is now 700-582-3 in his 15th season of collegiate coaching.
The Flames travel to Radford for a Big South series this weekend, starting on Fridayat 3 p.m. ODU travels to Philadelphia for a three-game CAA series with Drexel, beginningon Friday at 3p.m.
