CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - The University of Virginia erupted for four runs in thethird inning on a two-run triple by Mark Reynolds and a two-run homer by Joe Koshanskyto defeat the Monarchs, 8-3 Tuesday evening at UVA Stadium. Virginia is now 18-2 at home.
Old Dominion (12-21) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third as John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.) singled home Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.). The Monarchs scored two more runs in the sixth as Derek James (Terre Haute, IN.) scored on a bases loaded wild pitch and Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.) singled home Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.)
Chipman led ODU with two hits on the evening, while Eric Christensen led UVA withthree hits and Mark Reynolds knocked in three runs. Matt Dunn also knocked in two runs forVirginia (22-12).
The Monarchs will try again Wednesday night to give Tony Guzzo his 700th careerwin when ODU hosts 14th ranked North Carolina State at 7 p.m.
