Sophomore Kyle Hartley (Va. Beach, VA) scored his second goal of the season just four minutes into sudden death overtime to give the Old Dominion men's soccer team (3-2/0-0) a 3-2 win over #12 American on Wednesday.

Hartley corralled a rebound and stuck a shot into the left corner for the golden goal and the Monarch's second overtime victory in as many tries. Scoring leader Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) tied the game at two when he netted his third goal of the season with less than 10 minutes remaining.

ODU had to come from behind once again when American's Sean Albright had the game's first tally at the 10:56 mark. However, freshman Gianni Cimini (Ontario, Canada) scored his first career goal with a bicycle kick attempt at 27:45 to notch the score at 1. Michael Grinsfelder would answer that Monarch score with his own halfway through the second half and put the Eagles up by one for the second time. That lead would last until Vendegh tied it and Hartley won it. The Monarchs have come from behind in each of their three wins this season.

The Monarchs held a 22-21 shot and 6-4 corner advantage. Goalkeeper Sam Cameron (Raleigh, NC) made eight saves in his second start of the season, both OT victories. Michael Behonick stopped 10 shots for American.

ODU will look to go 2-0 on their first road stretch of the year when they travel to UNC-Wilmington for their first conference match next Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
