WASHINGTON (AP) - Ricardo Marsh (Mebane, NC.)had 25 points and 12 rebounds and OldDominion pulled away in the final minutes for an 84-76 victory over GeorgeWashington Saturday. Four Monarchs scored in double figures on the day.
Marsh shot 9-for-17 from the field and 6-for-7 from the line for theMonarchs, who shot 50.9 percent and hit 19 of 21 free throws.
Marsh's alley-oop slam off an inbounds play beneath George Washington'sbucket gave the Monarchs a 75-62 lead with 5:44 left. He also converted threefree throws in the final minute to secure the victory for Old Dominion (3-5).
Joining Marsh in double figures were senior Rasheed Wright (Greensboro, NC.) with16 points and five assists; freshman center Alex Loughton (Perth, Australia) with13 points, and junior guard John Waller (Richmond, VA.) with 16 points.
Chris Monroe led George Washington (5-4) with 21 points and seven rebounds.T.J. Thompson added 17 points and seven assists, and Pops Mesah-Bonsu had 13points for the Colonials, whose two-game winning streak ended.
Monroe and Mike Hall, who had 10 rebounds, hit back-to-back 3-pointers topull the Colonials to 68-62 with 6:49 left. They cut the deficit to 79-74 onThompson's three-point play with 1:20 remaining but never got closer.
The Monarchs shot 55.2 percent (16-29) in the first half, including 54.5percent (6-11) from 3-point range to take a 41-30 halftime lead.
ODU hit its free throws when they counted, going 19-21 (90.5). The Monarchscommitted only 13 turnovers, just five in the second half. Old Dominionbegins CAA Conference games on Thursday when they host Towson in the TedConstant Convocation Center at 6 p.m.
