The Old Dominion men's soccer team played James Madison to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Senior Night in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action in Norfolk.

This was the first game to end in a draw for both teams as ODU moves their record to 8-6-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the CAA while JMU is now 6-9-1 and 1-3-1. Both squads had chances but neither could find an advantage in the cold, wet conditions.

Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) scored his 13th goal of the season at 24:12 of the first half off a feed from senior Brandon Baker (Parker, CO) to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.

That advantage would hold up until the 49:04 mark when JMU's Andrew Rutledge converted a direct kick to tie the game at one all. The Dukes would take eight of their 13 shots in the second half but couldn't find the net again.

The Monarchs controlled the majority of the play in both overtimes periods, creating several scoring chances. Vendegh fired one shot off two different posts in the first overtime and another that was just barely tipped over by Madison goalie Josh Kovolenko in the second. Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO) sent his own try off the post with just minutes remaining in the game. In all ODU took 17 shots on the night.

Sam Cameron (Raleigh, NC) made six saves while Kovolenko had seven stops for JMU. ODU also held a 7-6 corner advantage, although nobody was successful on their attempts.

ODU co-captains Ben Cummins (Queensland, Australia) and Anders Haugom (Gjovik, Norway) joined Baker in a pre-game ceremony to honor the three seniors in their final home game.

The Monarchs will conclude the rest of their regular season schedule with three road games. The first will be on Friday night when they travel to Richmond, VA to take on CAA rival Virginia Commonwealth at 7:00 p.m. VCU stands in second place in the conference, just three points behind Old Dominion.
