CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. -- Jonathan Cole's goal with 15 minutes left in thematch lifted the Cavaliers of the University of Virginia to a 3-2 non conference victory over the Monarchs of Old Dominion Wednesday evening. UVA is now 9-5, while the Monarchs are 6-6.
ODU scored first on sophomore Brian Kluckman's (Springfield, VA.) goal 37:26into the match. Early in the second half, the Cavaliers tied the match on a goal by Ryan Gibbs,then took the lead as Alecko Eskandarian netted his 19th goal of the season.
But three minutes later ODU's Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) tied the match for the Monarchs at the 68:30 mark on an assist from Michael Goncalves (Alexandria, VA.). It was Vendegh's eighth goal of the season and 38th of his collegiate career. Coles game winner was a header off a corner from Jacob LeBlanc.
The Monarchs return to CAA action this weekend, hosting 18th ranked Hofstra on Friday night at 7 p.m., the Drexel on Saturday night a 7 p.m.
