NORFOLK, VA -- Doubles pair Julia Sotiriu (Wendelstein, Germany) and Coralie Herrmann (Porrentruy, Switzerland) reached the semifinals of the Flight C doubles bracket, while Sotiriu advanced to the semifinals of the Flight B singles consolation bracket in the second day of action at the East Coast Championships hosted by Old Dominion.
Sotiriu and Herrmann opened play in the Flight C doubles bracket blanking Christina Glas and Alison Lindsey of Radford, 8-0. The two then took a 8-1 game from NC State's Taylor Parker and Carmen Torres in the quarterfinals. On Sunday, Sotiriu and Herrmann will face Caroline Downs and Jihan Nejdi in the semifinals. Downs and Nejdi received a opening round of 16 bye and defeated Campbell's Lindesy Hughes and Kerstin Stockinger, 8-3, to advance to the semifinals.
Coralie Herrmann finished her singles play dropping a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Kyle Montgomery of Virginia in the main draw of the Flight C singles bracket.
Julia Sotiriu will continue play in the consolation bracket of the Flight B singles bracket on Sunday. She defeated Hampton Roads rival Sherida Watkins of Norfolk State, 8-2, and posted a quarterfinal victory over CAA rival Kristin Veith of James Madison, 8-2. In Sunday's semifinal, Sotiriu will take on NC State's Jennifer Jassawalla.
