COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The University of Maryland scored two first half goalsand defeated the Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion, 2-0 Sunday afternoon. Maryland is now4-0, while ODU is now 3-1.
Katrin Rummer netted the first score with 29:55 left in the first half on an unassistedgoal. With 4:26 left Tiffany Marsh scored on an assist from Rummer to make it 2-0.
ODU and Maryland had ten shots on goal each, and the Lady Monarchs had eightpenalty corners while holding the Terps to just two. ODU used two goalies, Junior Tina Walker (Suffolk, Va.), who had three saves in the first half. Senior Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA.) had two saves in the second half.
Last year, ODU defeated Maryland twice, 1-0 in overtime and 2-1. The two teams will meet again on Oct. 19 in Foreman Field.
The Lady Monarchs return to action this weekend when they host Duke on Saturday,and New Hampshire on Sunday.
