TOWSON, MD -- Junior Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) scored four goals and added four assists as the Lady Monarchs opened Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play with a 13-0 shutout over Towson in the Tigers CAA debut. The win halted the Tigers' (2-1, 0-1 CAA) two-game winning streak and improved the Lady Monarchs to 3-0 on the year.

Old Dominion's 13 goals are the most scored by the Lady Monarchs since netting 15 against Temple in 1998. That year Old Dominion finished the season 23-2 capturing CAA and NCAA titles. The 13 goals also marked the most goals ever allowed by a Towson squad. The previous high was 12, by the Lady Monarchs' next opponent Maryland, back in 1979.

Loy quickly set the tempo of the game giving Old Dominion a 2-0 lead by scoring twice within the first eight minutes of play. CAA Rookie of the Week, Rosalinda Banuelos (Escondido, CA) also added a pair of goals along with junior Lynn Farquhar (Alexandria, VA), senior Tara Herrmann (Perkasie, PA), and senior Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA) as the Lady Monarchs took a 7-0 lead at the half. Farquhar's goal was her first of the year.

In the second half, the Lady Monarchs continued their dominance with Herrmann netting two more goals to bring her total for the day up to three, while Snow added her second. Angie Loy scored goals number three and four, while junior Melissa Leonetti (Erdenheim, PA) added in her first goal of the 2002 season.

In assists, sophomore Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Loy recorded three for the Lady Monarchs. Leonetti and Snow finished the day with two assists, both off of penalty corners, with Farquhar and Banuelos each adding a point with one assist each.

The Lady Monarchs' defense held the Tigers to just two shots on net, one by Towson leading scorer Julie Lambi and the other by Andrea Schlezes, as Old Dominion outshot Towson 34-2. In net, Towson goalkeeper Loren Wolf posted a career high 16 saves. Old Dominion keepers Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA) and Tina Walker (Suffolk, VA) saved both Tiger shots on net.

The Old Dominion field hockey team returns to action tomorrow as they travel to College Park, MD to face perennial powerhouse Maryland at 1:00 p.m.
