WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- Old Dominion women's tennis junior All-American Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel) reached the finals of the "William" singles flight at the 10th annual William and Mary Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The 11th ranked and top seeded Lady Monarch fell in the final game, 6-3, 6-4 to #14 Alice Pirsu of Pennsylvania.
Cahana reached the finals by defeating #82 Jessica Johnson of Marshall in the semis, 6-2, 6-1. She finishes tournament play with a 3-1 record, with two victories over preseason ITA ranked opponents.
In the consolation bracket of the "Gold" singles flight, senior Julia Sotiriu (Wendelstein, Germany) won both of her matches. Temple's Lauren Verrall fell to Sotiriu, 6-4, 6-1, and Boston College's Emily Yeomans lost, 6-3, 6-3.
Freshman Coralie Herrmann (Porrentruy, Sweden) also won both her consolation matches in the "Tribe" singles flight. She posted a three set win over Kandis Batiste of Minnesota, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 and a straight set victory over Richmond's Courtney Klein, 6-2, 6-3.
The Lady Monarch tennis team returns to action next weekend at the Cissie Leary Invitational hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
