The Old Dominion University women's sailing team is ranked #1 in the nation by Sailing World this week after moving up from their #2 preseason spot.

ODU opened the 2002-03 season this past weekend as they hosted the Riley Cup and ODU Radial. Sophomore Anna Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg, OH.) and senior Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, NY.) led the team as they finished one-two in the Old Dominion Radial regatta. ODU dethroned St. Mary's who is now at second and Brown remained behind them at third.

The coed squad is currently ranked 19th after opening the year at 16th. ODU's top team came in third in the Riley Cup as the 'A" Division boat of Ignacio Saralegui (Montevideo, Uruaguay) and Christabelle Fernandez (Va. Beach, Va.) came in first and the 'B' Division boat of Andrew Newbold (Hummelstown, PA), and Cara Gibbons-Neff (Annapolis, MD) took fourth. Fourth ranked St. Mary's won the regatta as they took first in the final four races of the 14-race event. Harvard remains in the top spot in the rankings with Dartmout and Tufts rounding out the top three.
