The Old Dominion sailing team started the 2002-03 year off strong on Saturday as they lead in both the Riley Cup and the ODU Radial.
The Monarchs have two squads competing in the Riley Cup with the Silver team the overall leaders and the Blue currently 10th. The A division for the Silver team, Ignacio Saralegui (Montevideo, Uruaguay) and sophomore Christabelle Fernandez (Va. Beach, VA), took first while the B division, Andrew Newbold (Hummelstown, PA) and Cara Gibbons-Neff (Annapolis, MD) are 4th. Together the team is in the lead with 74 points. Bill Berg (Longwood, FL) and Amy Bourne (Va. Beach, VA) are seventh in the A division for the Blue team while the B division boat, freshman Ben Pongratz (Newport News, VA) and Megan Bartley (Oak Park, IL), sit in tenth. They have 162 total points and are tenth overall
Five Old Dominion women competed in the Laser Radial regatta with three of them finishing up front. Anna Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg, OH), Corrie Clement (Metarie, LA), and Debbi Capozzi (Bayport, NY) are first through third respectively with the sailor in fourth 32 points behind them. Other ODU competitors include Anna Cobb (Mechanicville, VA) in 12th and Maureen Castruccio (Pleasonton, CA) in 14th.
Both regattas will conclude Sunday at the Old Dominion Sailing Center.
