Sept. 10, 2002
The first road game of the 2002 season for the Old Dominion women's soccer team was not a successful one as they dropped a 3-2 non-conference contest to Campbell on Tuesday night.
Freshman Danielle Heusser (Hummelstown, PA) was able to get ODU on the board first as she scored the lone goal of the first half just past the nineteenth minute. Fellow freshman Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) offered a cross to Heusser who put the home the goal. That tally would stand until the 65:53 mark when Erica Cruse tied it up for the Camels.
ODU's newcomer in the middle, Heather Vaughan (Va. Beach, VA), put the Lady Monarchs back on top with a goal from Maura Linz (Prospect, KY) just four minutes later. However, the advantage would be short lived as Campbell (2-1-1) would find the back of the net two more times. They evened the score at 72:28 and then Sara Davis scored the game-winner with 3:22 remaining.
Old Dominion (1-2-0) held a 24-9 shot advantage but could only muster one shot after Vaughan's score. Jamie Olson made 14 saves for the Camels who had 4 corner kicks to ODU's 7.
