NORFOLK, VA. - The Old Dominion University men's and women's soccerteams gear up for the upcoming season with exhibition matches this weekend. The men'ssquad travels to Campbell on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest, while the Lady Monarchs hostEast Carolina in a 1 p.m. exhibition match on Sunday in the ODU Soccer Stadium. Admissionis free.
The Monarchs return eight starters including CAA Player of the Year and top scorerAttila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia), All-CAA sophomore forward Trevor McEachron(Woodbridge, VA.), All-CAA defender Anders Haugom (Gjovik, Norway) and junior midfielderMichael Tooley (Richmond, VA.).
The Monarchs, who were undefeated (3-0-2) in league play last year were picked by the CAA coaches to finish third. William and Mary was selected first and James Madison second.
The Lady Monarchs will field a young squad which includes four starters and eightnewcomers. Heading the list of returnees are junior forward, Shibahn Stevens (Penfield, NY.) ,senior midfielder Meghan Cathcart (Williamsburg, Va.) and 2001 CAA Rookie of the Year,Maura Linz (Prospect, KY.).
