HONOLULU, HI - The Old Dominion University sailing Monarchs finished fourth at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Coed Dinghy National Championships. ODU tallied 230 points, while St. Mary's (MD.) won the event with 203, Harvard was second with 210, host Hawaii was third with 219 and Boston College finished fifth with 237 in the 18-team field.
The Monarchs A division boat of Brad Funk (Harbor Bluffs, FL.), Liz Biondi (Norwalk, CT.), and Jack Kerr (Seattle, WA.) were fifth with 127 points, while the B division boat of Matt Allen (Beverly, MA.), Anna Cobb (Mechanicsville, VA.), Kerr and Bill Berg (Longwood, FL.) took third with 103 points. The Monarchs completed the three-day regatta with one first, and six seconds through 36 races.
Collegiate sailing has six national championships throughout the year, three in the fall and three in the spring. ODU qualified for five, taking second in the men's singlehanded and third in the women's singlehanded's in the fall, at ODU. The Lady Monarchs captured the women's national championships last weekend, ODU took sixth in the team race and fourth in the coed dinghy.
