HONOLULU, HAWAII -- The Monarch sailors fell to fourth place with 176 points on the second day of competition at the 2002 Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) North American Coed Dinghy National Championships. after sitting in second place on day one. St. Mary's College of Maryland leads the way with 156 points and are followed closely by the University of Hawaii's 157 point total and Harvard University, who has 158 points.
The 18 participating teams sailed eight races in each division. Fourteen races have now been completed, with four more scheduled for tomorrow's final day of racing. St. Mary's was in eighth place after the first day of competition, but climbed to the top in today's racing.
The Monarchs A division boat of Brad Funk (Harbor Bluffs, FL.), Liz Biondi (Norwalk, CT.) were tied for fifth with 95 points, while the B division boat of Matt Allen (Beverly, MA.), Anna Cobb (Mechanicsville, VA.) and Jack Kerr (Seattle, WA.) remained in third with 81 points. The Monarchs had one first and five second place finishes on the day.
