Norfolk, VA-The Old Dominion sailing team will be participating in the ICSA Women's, Team Race and coed Dinghy national championships in Hawaii beginning May 28 and continuing until June 7. The University of Hawaii will host all three championships.
The Women's championship will be May 29-31. Old Dominion will be sending Sally Barkow (Nashotah, WI) and Cara Gibbons-Neff (Annapolis, MD) to compete in A division with Corrie Clement (Metarie, LA) and Liz Bower (Fairport, NY) sailing in B division. Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, LA) and Anna Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg, OH) will be the alternates.
The Team Race will be held June 2-4. Competing for the Monarchs will be the team of Brad Funk (Harbor Bluffs, FL), Lis Biondi (Norwalk, CT), Matt Allen (Beverly, MA), Anna Cobb (Mechanicsville, VA), Ryan Thorvaldsen (Sayville, NY) and Megan Bartley (Oak Park, IL). Jack Kerr (Seattle, WA), Bill Berg (Longwood, FL) and Debbie Capozzi are the alternates.
The final championship event, the coed Dinghy, will be held June 5-7. Competing for ODU in A division will be Funk and Biondi. B division will feature Allen and Cobb. Kerr and Berg will be alternates.
Last year the Monarchs took sixth place at the ICSA Women's, fifth at the Team Race and eighth at the Dinghy championship. Old Dominion has qualified for five out of a possible six national championship races this year.
