NORFOLK, VA. - The Old Dominion University sailing squad will competefor a possible three collegiate national championships in Honolulu, HI. beginningWednesday.
May 29-31, ODU's second ranked women's squad will be in the ICSA Women'sNational Championship regatta. The Team Race squad will compete June 2-4 and thetop ranked Co-ed Dinghy squad will compete in the ICSA Dinghy Nationals, June5-7.
The Women's team will consist of Sally Barkow (Nashtoah, WI.), Cara Gibbons-Neff (Annapolis, MD.), Corrie Clement (Metarie, LA.), Liz Bower (Fairport, NY.), andMegan Bartley (Oak Park, IL.). The alternates are Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, LA.) andAnna Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg,, OH.).
The Team Race squad will consist of Lis Biondi (Norwalk, CT.), Matt Allen(Beverly, MA.), Anna Cobb (Mechanicsville, VA.), Ryan Thorvaldsen (Sayville, NY.),And Megan Bartley (Oak Park, IL.). Jack Kerr (Seattle, WA.), Bill Berg (Longwood,FL.), and Debbie Capozzi are alternates.
The Co-ed dinghy squad will consist of ODU Alumni Association Male Athlete of the Year, Brad Funk (Harbor Bluffs, FL.), Biondi, Allen and Cobb, withKerr and Berg as alternates.
Old Dominion has won 11 national collegiate sailing championships since1982. The last title was in 1998 when the Monarchs won both the Team Race andCo-ed Dinghy titles in New Orleans. In the fall ICSA Singlehanded National championships, held at ODU, Funk took second and Barkow third.
