Sept. 30, 2001
Fairfax, VA-Old Dominion University sophomore Michael Tooley (Richmond, VA) scored the only goal of the game this afternoon to lift ODU past George Mason in men's soccer, 1-0. ODU is now 4-3 overall, 1-0 CAA. The Patriots fall to 2-6, 0-1 CAA.
Tooley notched his second goal of the season with help from teammate Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia). Vendegh sent in a cross from the right side of the box towards Tooley, who outleaped a Patriot defender and put home a header for the one goal lead at the 14th minute mark.
George Mason didn't throw in the towel, however, and kept launching shots at the Monarch net. Junior keeper Chad Calderone (Rockville Centre, NY) was up to the task, collecting five saves en route to the shutout.
The Monarchs will return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Georgetown.
